She has exhibited as an artist in prestigious venues such as the Fondazione Arnaldo Pomodoro (which awarded her the Special Prize in 2006 and the Foundation’s First Prize in 2008), the Galleria Civica di Modena, the Palazzo Ducale in Genoa, the Triennale Bovisa in Milan, the Shenzhen Biennale, and more recently at the Torri Lana exhibition space during Milan Design Week 2024. Her attention to materials and the symbolic nature of gesture are also reflected in her work as a designer.
Nature, sculpture, photography, craftsmanship and industrial production, memory, metamorphosis, and space are the themes around which her research revolves. Her works speak of sculpture but do not always take the form of defined, three-dimensional objects. Assemblages and shadows of sculptures become the subjects of her photographs, landscape photographs, in turn, move from their two-dimensional state to become material for her sculptures, or she creates organic installations in which natural elements, such as mold and grass, contaminate the space and become matter to be shaped. In one way or another, all these works allow the artist to explore the boundaries of sculpture at times lightening it, at times denying it completeness.
The long-standing collaboration between Mipa and Laura Renna has led to the creation of decorative families inspired by contemporary graphic design and design culture. Among the main Mipa collections to which Renna has contributed her hand and artistic genius are Puerto Rico, Cuba, and the Seeds collection. Renna continues to explore and innovate in the field of contemporary design and art, while maintaining a strong connection to the Italian artisanal tradition. Her collaboration with Mipa, as well as her participation in exhibitions such as the one hosted by Torri Lana, highlights her ability to blend art and craftsmanship in ever new and stimulating ways.
