In the heart of the beautiful island of Carloforte, Sardinia, stands a single-family villa that embodies the perfect balance between local architectural tradition and contemporary design, with understated sophistication. The project, designed by interior and lighting designer Victoria Archontis, stands out for its attention to detail, refined material choices, and the masterful use of MIPA’s decorated terrazzo, which defines and enhances the home’s key spaces with style and character.
Spread across two floors and arranged in two interconnected volumes, the home features surfaces enhanced by MIPA’s terrazzo tiles, inspired by traditional antique cementine. An ambitious project that adopts a narrative approach, where each room is finished with a different decoration, creating a varied yet harmonious visual language that brings elegance, depth, and a strong sense of memory.
On the main wall of the living room, above the white leather capitonné sofa, a backlit niche is clad with the Fior di Loto design from the Decori a tappeto collection, transforming the terrazzo motif into a scenographic and artistic feature.
In the main volume, which is also accessible via a secondary entrance, the use of terrazzo continues in the kitchenette, dining area, and small entryway. The Camaguey design from the Cuba collection was chosen here for its ability to combine graphic energy with a contemporary tone.
The internal masonry staircase, with wooden steps and a wrought iron railing, adds a classical touch to the architectural composition. But terrazzo reveals its full evocative power in the niche beside the staircase. Thanks to careful lighting and the use of the Adelia design from the Decori a tappeto collection, this space becomes a visually and symbolically impactful point, turning a technical feature into a poetic architectural detail.
On the upper floor, the bedroom is designed as an intimate and relaxed space. Sand-colored walls and ceilings dialogue with the original cement tiles and the refined Trinidad design from the Cuba collection, chosen for the floor. At the centre of the room, a wrought iron canopy bed introduces a classic note that remains in harmony with the overall material narrative of the house.
The project by Victoriarchontis STUDIO shows how MIPA terrazzo, thanks to its versatility and strong visual impact, becomes a true tool of architectural and cultural expression.
The carefully selected decorative choices reflect the unique character of each room, creating an elegantly understated atmosphere in which the material becomes story, memory, and identity.
In this home in Carloforte, MIPA is not just a surface choice, it is a true narrative element, capable of enhancing each space with authenticity and sophistication, renewing tradition with a contemporary vision.
